Do you know how conference interpreting is done?

Conference Interpreting is used mostly for formal conferences and meetings where the participants speak different languages.  Examples are, the United Nations, International Meetings, Internal Company Conferences, etc.

Conference Interpreting usually consists of at least one soundproof booth for each language, microphones for the interpreters, and earphones for the audience.  Simultaneous interpreting is a complex skill requiring the interpreter to listen and translate at the same time.

Conference interpreting is a very demanding job that requires great concentration. Depending on the complexity of the subject matter and the length of the meeting or event, two interpreters are necessary per language so they can alternate interpreting. This allows the interpreters to maintain quality and avoid fatigue.

While interpreting from a fully encapsulated booth, the audience members hear the interpreters through lightweight, wireless listening devices.
